Trump Says US Has One or Two Iranian Targets Left, Including Suspected Nuclear Site

US President Donald Trump said Saturday that American forces have destroyed much of Iran’s military capabilities but still need to target one or two remaining sites, including the suspected underground nuclear facility known as Pickaxe Mountain.

Trump said negotiations with Iran to end the war, launched by the United States and Israel in late February, were progressing but questioned Tehran’s reliability.

“Negotiations are going fine, but you know they’re not very reliable,” Trump told reporters at his Florida residence.

He reiterated that Washington was in no rush to launch further offensive operations, claiming that US strikes had severely weakened Iran’s military and nuclear programme.

“We’ve knocked out their nuclear. We still have to take care of, I would say, one or two sites, but we can do that in 10 minutes,” Trump said.

Referring to the suspected underground nuclear complex, he added: “You probably could look at Pickaxe Mountain, and you have to take care of that. We can do that all very quickly.”

Iran has denied that any nuclear activities are being conducted at the site.

Meanwhile, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said earlier Saturday that Trump had not yet decided whether to authorise further strikes against Iran, adding that Washington remained open to a diplomatic solution.

Iran’s supreme leader also warned the United States and Israel against launching further attacks, following threats of renewed military action after the US midterm elections.

Trump has previously indicated that he was considering additional military action after the midterms, saying he was weighing whether to “finish them off.”
