Trump Attacks Norway Over Nobel Peace Prize Snub, Says Norwegian Immigrants Are Unwelcome
US President Donald Trump intensified his criticism of Norway on Sunday, calling it a “shit house country” and saying he did not want Norwegian immigrants in the United States, linking his remarks to the failure to award him the Nobel Peace Prize.
Trump made the comments during a political rally in Port Huron, Michigan, ahead of next week’s midterm elections.
Blaming immigration for recent unrest in France, Trump said the United States would welcome immigrants from certain countries but exclude Norwegians.
“Because I didn’t get the Nobel Prize … So I don’t want anybody from Norway,” he said.
There was no indication that the Trump administration was introducing any new official restrictions on Norwegian immigration.
Trump also described Norway as a “shit house country,” repeating language he has previously used to criticize Haiti, Libya, Somalia and Yemen.
The remarks contrasted with Norway’s economic standing. The country ranks among the world’s highest-income economies by GDP per capita, according to International Monetary Fund data. Its sovereign wealth fund reported a record profit of 1.75 trillion Norwegian crowns ($184.3 billion) in the first half of 2026.
Norway’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and a representative of the Norwegian Nobel Committee did not immediately respond to requests for comment outside regular office hours.
Earlier this month, Trump described the decision not to award him the Nobel Peace Prize as an “indelible stain” on Norway, escalating his criticism of the country over the award.
