Malaysia Visa-Free Travel: Indians Get 30-Day Entry, High Commission Issues Key Warning

Indian travellers planning a trip to Malaysia can currently enter the country without a visa for tourism, subject to Malaysia’s entry requirements. The visa exemption for Indian citizens is in effect until December 31, 2026, according to Malaysia’s Immigration Department.

However, the High Commission of India in Kuala Lumpur has issued an advisory asking Indian nationals not to misuse the visa-free facility to travel to Malaysia in search of employment.

30-Day Visa-Free Entry For Indians

Malaysia’s visa exemption allows eligible Indian citizens to visit the country for tourism and social visits without obtaining a tourist visa in advance.

The facility is currently valid until December 31, 2026, according to the Malaysian Immigration Department.

India Issues Warning Over Job Searches

The High Commission of India in Kuala Lumpur issued an advisory on September 22 after noticing an increase in Indian nationals allegedly being misled by agents offering false job promises in Malaysia.

The mission warned that the visa-free facility is intended for tourism and social visits and does not permit employment.

According to the advisory, people who travel on the visa-free facility to look for jobs could face problems including overstaying, irregular immigration status, exploitation, detention and legal action.

The Indian mission has specifically cautioned travellers against agents who allegedly lure people to Malaysia with promises of employment.

Travellers planning to work in Malaysia should use the appropriate employment and immigration channels rather than entering under a tourism-related visa exemption.
