India elected to bowl first against New Zealand in the third T20I of the five-match series at Wellington on Tuesday, with the visitors looking to secure the series after taking a 2-0 lead with two consecutive victories in Christchurch. A win would give India an unassailable 3-0 advantage with two matches remaining.

India won the opening T20I by four wickets while chasing a target of 226. The second match also went their way by four wickets, although the chase proved far more challenging. After India lost wickets and struggled to keep pace with the required run rate, Tilak Varma and Nitish Kumar Reddy produced a late recovery to seal the victory with one ball remaining.

First Match Outside Christchurch

The third T20I marks the series’ first game outside Christchurch, with Wellington’s Hnry Stadium hosting the contest.

New Zealand will be looking to make the most of the change in venue and keep the series alive. India, meanwhile, will aim to maintain their winning momentum and address the concerns that emerged during their second-match chase.

The hosts have also been dealing with changes to their pace attack. Fast bowler Matt Henry is unavailable for the remainder of the series, while Lockie Ferguson is set to miss the Wellington fixture, according to match previews.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Under the Spotlight

Teenage batter Vaibhav Sooryavanshi will attract considerable attention as he looks to make an impact in Wellington.

The 15-year-old moved to No. 3 in the second T20I in the absence of injured wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan. However, he managed just four runs off eight deliveries before being dismissed.

With Kishan ruled out of the third match as he continues recovering from a low-grade right adductor strain, Sooryavanshi has another opportunity to establish himself in the Indian batting order. Kumar Kushagra has also remained with the squad as wicketkeeping cover.

India Look to Continue Their Dominance

India have won both matches so far, but the Wellington contest presents another test against a New Zealand side seeking to avoid falling further behind.

The visitors will look to their batting depth and ability to finish close games, while New Zealand need a stronger performance to prevent India from wrapping up the series with two matches to spare.

With Sooryavanshi seeking redemption and the Indian team aiming to secure an early series victory, the third T20I could prove pivotal to the remainder of the contest.
