Nifty flat around 22,750, Sensex down nearly 100 pts; IT, Oil & Gas top laggards

Sensex and Nifty 50 traded largely flat on Tuesday amid persistently elevated crude oil prices and selling in IT stocks.

As of 11 am, the 30-share Sensex was trading 50 points, or 0.08 per cent, lower at 73,550, while the Nifty 50 was largely unchanged at 22,755.

Sectorally, the Nifty IT and Oil and Gas indices were the top laggards. In contrast, the Nifty Pharma, Media and Auto indices gained in the range of 1.5–3 per cent. Broader markets outperformed the benchmarks, with the Nifty Midcap 100 rising 0.8 per cent and the Nifty Smallcap 100 surging over 2 per cent.
