Consuming 60 grams of nuts may improve sexual desire and orgasm quality: Study
A new study has linked nut consumption to improvements in sexual desire and orgasm quality, adding to the growing list of health benefits associated with nuts.
The research, published in the journal Nutrients, found that eating 60 grams of mixed nuts daily may help improve aspects of sexual function, including libido and orgasm quality. Researchers said the findings could eventually support dietary approaches for conditions such as erectile dysfunction and low sexual desire.
The study, titled “Effect of Nut Consumption on Erectile and Sexual Function in Healthy Males: A Secondary Outcome Analysis of the FERTINUTS Randomized Controlled Trial”, involved 83 healthy men who were following a typical Western diet low in fruits and vegetables.
Participants were divided into two groups for 14 weeks. One group continued with their regular diet, while the other added a daily 60-gram serving of mixed nuts — including almonds, hazelnuts and walnuts — to their meals.
At the end of the trial, participants completed the IIEF-15 questionnaire, a widely used assessment tool for sexual function. Researchers found that the group consuming nuts reported improvements in sexual desire and orgasm quality.
The study was carried out by researchers from University of Utah, Rovira i Virgili University and the Pere Virgili Health Research Institute in Spain.
However, the researchers cautioned that more extensive studies are needed to better understand how nuts may influence sexual function.
“In conclusion, our study suggests that compliance with a healthy diet supplemented with mixed nuts may help to improve erectile and sexual desire,” the researchers wrote, adding that larger studies are needed to confirm the findings and identify the mechanisms behind the benefits.
