Russian Missile Strike Hits Kyiv, Damages Residential Buildings and Kindergarten
Russian forces launched a missile attack on Ukraine’s capital, Kyiv, early Saturday, damaging residential buildings and injuring at least two people, according to local officials.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said explosions were reported in the suburbs as Russian forces targeted infrastructure with ballistic missiles.
“Explosions in the Kyiv suburbs. The enemy is hitting infrastructure with ballistic missiles,” Klitschko wrote on Telegram.
He said debris from the attack struck a five-storey apartment building in the western part of the capital, while the facade of another residential building was also damaged.
Kyiv’s military administration separately reported that two people had been injured and a building housing a kindergarten had sustained damage.
Authorities continued to warn residents about the possibility of further strikes several hours after the initial attack.
Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said in his nightly video address that Russia was preparing additional attacks targeting energy facilities, bridges and other critical infrastructure.
The latest assault came just three days before US-led negotiations involving Ukrainian and Russian representatives were scheduled to begin in Abu Dhabi, with the aim of finding a resolution to the war, now in its fourth year.
The previous round of negotiations between the two sides took place in February, as diplomatic efforts to end the conflict continue alongside intensified military operations.
