Mira Rajput calls glass skin trend unrealistic, says healthy skin has pores and texture

Mira Rajput is urging people to stop chasing the “glass skin” trend, saying the pursuit of perfectly poreless, reflective skin promotes unrealistic beauty standards and overlooks the fact that healthy skin naturally has texture.

The entrepreneur and co-founder of skincare brand Akind shared her views in an Instagram video posted on August 1, questioning whether the viral Korean beauty trend is even practical in India’s climate.

‘Glass skin isn’t a realistic beauty goal’

In the video, Mira acknowledged that the flawless, glowing look is visually appealing but argued that it shouldn’t be treated as the ultimate skincare goal.

“Is it just me or is the glass skin trend very unrealistic? Don’t get me wrong, it looks beautiful. That super clear, poreless, reflective finish. But can it really be a beauty goal in our weather? I don’t think so, and I haven’t even tried to get it,” she said.

Mira also noted that many people attempt to achieve the look by layering multiple skincare products, despite the skin having a limit to how much it can absorb.

‘Skin has pores—and that’s normal’

Encouraging a more practical approach to skincare, Mira stressed that healthy skin is not naturally flawless.

“Let’s be real, a lot of that glass effect is just good old lighting. Skin has pores and that’s not a flaw; it’s how it functions. You can work on refining texture and improve hydration and barrier function with a moisturiser. But reflective skin 24×7—that’s not how skin behaves,” she said.

Instead of striving for perfection, she encouraged people to focus on maintaining balanced, resilient and well-hydrated skin, reminding followers that pores and natural skin texture are completely normal.

What is the glass skin trend?

Originating in South Korea, the glass skin trend refers to a complexion that appears exceptionally smooth, deeply hydrated and luminous enough to resemble glass. The look is typically achieved through an extensive skincare routine involving gentle cleansing, exfoliation, toners, essences, serums, moisturisers and sunscreen, all aimed at maximising hydration and radiance.
