Mumbai Indians deny reports of Hardik Pandya trade talks with CSK or other IPL franchises: Report

Mumbai Indians have dismissed reports that they are in talks to trade captain Hardik Pandya to another Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise, saying no decisions on player movements have been taken as the team’s post-season review is still in progress.

A franchise spokesperson told Sportstar that speculation linking Pandya with a move—particularly to Chennai Super Kings (CSK)—is premature, as the review process has not yet concluded.

“Our post-season review is currently on, and we are looking into all aspects of the team. Contrary to reports, we are not engaged in conversations with regard to player trades; the same is only possible once the review is complete,” the spokesperson said.

The official added that multiple options are being evaluated, but no final decisions have been made.

Trade speculation gathers pace

Earlier media reports claimed CSK and Mumbai Indians had begun discussions over a possible deal involving Pandya. According to those reports, Mumbai wanted young opener Ayush Mhatre and all-rounder Shivam Dube in return, while CSK were reportedly willing to offer Dube, South African batter Dewald Brevis and an additional ₹10 crore instead of parting with Mhatre.

Delhi Capitals, Kolkata Knight Riders and Rajasthan Royals have also been linked with a possible move for the India all-rounder.

Difficult spell as MI captain

Pandya has led Mumbai Indians since the 2024 season, but the franchise has struggled to regain its former dominance under his leadership.

In his first season as captain, MI finished at the bottom of the table. The following year, the team reached the playoffs but failed to progress further. This season proved even more disappointing, with Mumbai winning just four of their 14 matches to finish ninth in the 10-team standings after an encouraging opening victory.

The campaign was also overshadowed by reports of dressing-room unrest, including speculation that Pandya lacked the full backing of some senior players. Injuries and inconsistent performances further derailed the season, fuelling rumours that he may have played his final match for the five-time IPL champions.
