Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana: Part 1 is witnessing a strong response in overseas markets, with worldwide opening-weekend advance bookings crossing Rs 115 crore. However, the Ranbir Kapoor-starrer is yet to cross the Rs 40 crore mark in domestic Day 1 pre-sales, putting it behind some of the year’s biggest Indian releases.

With less than 48 hours remaining before its first show, the mythological action spectacle is banking on positive word-of-mouth to translate its overseas momentum and advance bookings into a strong box-office opening.

Ramayana Day 1 advance booking collection in India

According to industry tracker Sacnilk, as of 12 pm on Tuesday, November 3, Ramayana had generated Rs 32.59 crore in gross advance bookings across India for its opening day. The film sold 8.16 lakh tickets across 20,159 shows, recording an overall occupancy of 18 per cent.

Excluding blocked seats, its Day 1 advance booking gross stood at Rs 27.34 crore, with 6.80 lakh tickets sold and occupancy at 15 per cent. The film had also registered 50 houseful shows.

Across the first four days for which bookings were available, domestic advance booking collections reached Rs 75.56 crore, including Rs 60.09 crore excluding blocked seats. The film sold 19.13 lakh tickets across 61,835 shows, with overall occupancy at 14 per cent.

North America drives Ramayana’s overseas pre-sales

The film’s overseas advance bookings have crossed Rs 40 crore, taking its worldwide opening-weekend pre-sales beyond Rs 115 crore.

North America has emerged as the biggest contributor to the overseas numbers. Paid premieres in the US scheduled for November 4 alone have generated more than $1.20 million (approximately Rs 11.37 crore).

The film’s US weekend pre-sales are reportedly around $3 million (Rs 28.45 crore). The makers are said to be targeting an overseas opening-weekend business exceeding $20 million (approximately Rs 189.62 crore).

Ramayana vs Dhurandhar 2 vs Jailer 2 vs Toxic

Despite its impressive worldwide pre-sales, Ramayana is trailing several major Indian releases in domestic Day 1 advance bookings.

Aditya Dhar’s Dhurandhar 2, featuring Ranveer Singh, recorded Rs 62.43 crore in Day 1 advance booking gross, or Rs 52.35 crore excluding blocked seats. The film sold 14,07,553 tickets across 23,364 shows.

Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2, directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, collected Rs 41.48 crore in advance bookings, with the figure standing at Rs 37.60 crore after excluding blocked seats. It sold 19.60 lakh tickets across 17,615 shows.

Meanwhile, Yash’s Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups, directed by Geetu Mohandas, registered Rs 73.43 crore in Day 1 advance booking gross. Its collection excluding blocked seats stood at Rs 58.27 crore, with 18,48,067 tickets sold across 25,654 shows.

These figures put Ramayana behind all three films in domestic opening-day pre-sales, although its worldwide opening-weekend numbers indicate considerable interest in overseas markets.

Ramayana cast and crew

Directed by Nitesh Tiwari and produced by Namit Malhotra, Ramayana: Part 1 features Ranbir Kapoor as Rama, Sai Pallavi as Sita, Yash as Ravana, Ravi Dubey as Lakshmana and Sunny Deol as Hanuman.

The film’s music is composed by Oscar-winning composers Hans Zimmer and AR Rahman, adding to the scale and international ambitions of the mythological action spectacle.
