Neeraj Chopra wins Commonwealth Games 2026 silver; Yash Vir Singh bags bronze

India’s Neeraj Chopra settled for the silver medal in the men’s javelin throw at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, while compatriot Yash Vir Singh clinched bronze to complete a memorable outing for the country.

The Tokyo Olympic champion recorded a best throw of 85.83m, finishing behind Sri Lanka’s Rumesh Pathirage, who claimed gold with an impressive 89.75m effort. Yash Vir Singh secured bronze with a throw of 85.41m, marking the first time two Indian athletes have shared the javelin podium at the Commonwealth Games.

Rohit Yadav, the third Indian in the event, finished seventh.

Chopra made a strong start with 80.97m before moving into the lead with an 85.83m second attempt. However, Pathirage responded immediately with his winning throw of 89.75m, a mark Chopra could not surpass despite four more attempts.

The silver is Chopra’s second Commonwealth Games medal after winning gold at the 2018 Gold Coast Games, where he became the first Indian to claim the men’s javelin title. He missed the 2022 Birmingham Games because of a groin injury sustained during the World Athletics Championships.

Meanwhile, Pakistan’s Paris Olympic champion Arshad Nadeem endured a disappointing competition, finishing ninth and failing to qualify for the final eight attempts.
