Mika Singh Questions Diljit Dosanjh For Promoting Film With Hania Aamir, Says ‘Not Even 1%’ For Border 2
Singer Mika Singh has praised Diljit Dosanjh for taking Punjabi music to a global audience, but questioned why the singer-actor does not promote his Bollywood projects more actively.
In a recent conversation with Times Now, Mika said he was proud of Diljit’s success but admitted he was confused by what he described as limited promotion for some of his Hindi films, including Border 2.
Mika Questions Diljit’s Border 2 Promotion
Mika was asked whether he felt jealous of Diljit’s success. Rejecting the suggestion, he said he was proud to see another Punjabi singer achieve international recognition.
Mika also credited Diljit with carrying forward the legacy of turbaned Punjabi singers such as Daler Mehndi and making a strong mark in the music industry.
He then brought up Border 2, which stars Diljit alongside Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan and Ahan Shetty. Directed by Anurag Singh, the film is a sequel to the 1997 war drama Border and released in January 2026.
Mika said he felt Diljit could have spoken more about the film and his experience of working with Sunny Deol.
“I could be wrong, but I feel that when Border 2 came out, Diljit paaji did not promote it even one per cent. He didn’t even thank Sunny paaji one percent,” Mika said.
“I have never seen Diljit say, ‘It is a big thing that my film with Sunny Deol is coming.’ He never spoke about Border 2. When the film came out, and even afterwards, I didn’t see him post about it,” he added.
Mika also referred to Main Vaapas Aaunga, saying he did not recall seeing Diljit post much about the film either.
He questioned why Diljit would not promote his Bollywood projects despite being part of them.
“I don’t understand this. Why don’t you promote Bollywood when you work in Bollywood? Then you say, ‘I don’t need Bollywood,’ but you work in Bollywood. I am saying these things to him as a brother,” Mika said.
“Border 2 is one of the biggest films for our country. It is a film about Hindustan. Why don’t you post about it?” he added.
However, Diljit did share promotional material for Border 2. He unveiled his first look in December 2025 and was part of the film’s promotional campaign. He also shared behind-the-scenes videos and content related to the film’s songs.
Mika Talks About Sardaar Ji 3
Mika also discussed Diljit’s Sardaar Ji 3, which featured Hania Aamir alongside Diljit and Neeru Bajwa.
“The only one he posted was about his film with the Pakistani heroine (Hania Aamir). Neeru Bajwa is also in that film, but there was no mention of Neeru Bajwa. I feel you should promote everything,” Mika said.
Sardaar Ji 3 became controversial in 2025 because of Hania Aamir’s involvement in the project. Her casting came under scrutiny amid heightened India-Pakistan tensions following the Pahalgam terror attack.
The film did not receive a theatrical release in India and opened in overseas markets on June 27, 2025.
Mika Says He Has Always Supported Diljit
Despite questioning Diljit’s approach to promoting his films, Mika stressed that his comments do not diminish the support he has shown the singer over the years.
He recalled defending Diljit when the singer faced backlash from Khalistani groups, saying he had publicly stood by him during that period.
Mika said Diljit had consistently represented Punjabi music on the global stage and did not deserve the criticism he faced.
He also recalled their relationship from the early days of Diljit’s career, including a visit by Diljit during which the two ate butter chicken. Mika joked that Diljit has since turned vegetarian.
Mika further recalled that his Lokhandwala studio was often used by Diljit’s team when they needed a recording space at short notice. According to Mika, Diljit’s manager Sonali would call him whenever there was an urgent requirement, and he was always willing to help.
Mika’s Earlier Post On Diljit Controversy
In June 2025, Mika had taken to Instagram to criticise what appeared to be Diljit’s involvement with cross-border entertainment projects, although he did not name him directly.
“Desh Pehle. Guys, as we all know, the relationship between India and Pakistan isn’t going well right now. Yet some people continue to act irresponsibly,” he wrote.
Mika said artists should consider the wider context before releasing content involving artists from across the border, particularly when relations between the two countries are strained.
He also referred to a film featuring Fawad Khan and Vaani Kapoor and criticised what he described as a lack of sensitivity over cross-border collaborations.
