The Directorate of Environment and Climate Change on Tuesday launched the 7th State-Level Media Fellowship on Climate Change Reporting (2026–27) at the Civil Secretariat in Imphal.

Deputy Chief Minister Losii Dikho attended as chief guest, alongside media advisors Pradip Phanjoubam, Khogendra Khomdram and Salam Rajesh. The event was presided over by Director T. Brajakumar Singh.

Addressing the gathering, Dikho underscored the growing importance of responsible journalism in tackling climate change, urging media professionals to play an active role in raising awareness about environmental challenges.

Brajakumar Singh said the fellowship, launched in 2018, has so far supported 48 media fellows who have collectively produced over 130 articles on climate-related issues. The 2026–27 edition will select 10 journalists for the programme.

The initiative aims to strengthen capacity-building among journalists, improve understanding of climate science, and promote clear, accessible reporting. As part of its outreach, the Media Resource Centre will also conduct district-level programmes in collaboration with local journalist bodies and broadcasters such as All India Radio and Doordarshan Kendra Imphal.

Officials noted that Manipur was the first state in the Himalayan region to introduce a dedicated media fellowship on climate change reporting.
