India Urges Citizens to Leave Iran, Avoid Travel Amid Fresh Israel-Iran Escalation
India on Monday advised its citizens to avoid travelling to Iran and urged those currently in the country to leave using available transport options, as renewed military exchanges between Israel and Iran heightened tensions across West Asia.
In an advisory issued by the Indian Embassy in Tehran, New Delhi reiterated its earlier warning in light of the latest developments in the region.
“In view of the latest developments in the region, the Embassy reiterates its earlier advice to all Indian nationals to avoid any travel to Iran,” the embassy said.
It also advised Indian nationals presently in Iran to “exit the country by available means of transport.”
The advisory came hours after Israel and Iran exchanged fresh strikes, raising fears of a renewed escalation in the region.
According to reports, Israeli forces targeted multiple locations in Iran early Monday, including a petrochemical facility in Mahshahr in the country’s southwest. Iran responded with missile attacks aimed at military targets in Israel, with both sides reporting overnight operations.
The latest exchange marks one of the most serious flare-ups since a ceasefire ended weeks of fighting between the two countries in April.
India has issued several travel advisories relating to Iran since regional tensions intensified earlier this year. However, the latest notice is among the strongest so far, with New Delhi urging Indians already in the country to leave rather than merely exercise caution.
