Heavy Rain Alert Across India Today: IMD Warns Delhi-NCR, Haryana, UP and Other States; Check Forecast

The monsoon is expected to remain active across large parts of India on Sunday, September 6, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting heavy rainfall at isolated places in several states, including Delhi, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh.

The eastern and northeastern regions are also likely to remain under a weather watch, with heavy showers forecast in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya, Bihar, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura, as well as Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim. Several areas may also experience thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds.

Yellow alert for Noida, Gurugram and Ghaziabad

Delhi is likely to remain generally cloudy on Sunday, with moderate rain expected. However, the IMD has not issued a colour-coded warning for the national capital.

Meanwhile, Gurugram, Faridabad, Ghaziabad and Noida have been placed under a yellow alert for Sunday.

The forecast comes after heavy rainfall over the past two days caused waterlogging across several parts of Delhi-NCR. Gurugram, in particular, witnessed severe traffic congestion and long queues of vehicles on both Friday and Saturday.

The wider region is expected to remain wet, with fairly widespread rainfall forecast over Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi.

West Uttar Pradesh may receive fairly widespread rain on Sunday, while similar conditions are likely in East Uttar Pradesh from September 6 to 8, along with isolated spells of heavy rainfall.

East Rajasthan is also likely to receive isolated heavy rain on Sunday.

Thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds likely

Rain is not expected to be the only weather concern, with thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds forecast across several parts of the country.

The IMD has forecast gusty winds of 30-40 kmph at isolated places in Bihar, East Madhya Pradesh, East Rajasthan, Gangetic West Bengal, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh and adjoining areas, Karnataka, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim, and West Rajasthan.

Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal could experience stronger thunderstorms, with lightning and gusty winds reaching 40-50 kmph at isolated locations. Strong surface winds are also likely in parts of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.

Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are possible in the northeastern states, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and Uttarakhand.

Rain to continue on Monday

The wet spell is expected to continue into Monday, September 7, although the number of regions under the heavy-rain forecast is likely to reduce slightly.

According to the IMD, isolated heavy rainfall is likely in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya, Bihar, East Madhya Pradesh, East Uttar Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim, Uttarakhand and West Madhya Pradesh.

Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds of 30-40 kmph are also likely in parts of Bihar, East Madhya Pradesh, East Rajasthan, Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh and adjoining areas, and West Madhya Pradesh.
