Collective Appeal to the Government of Delhi by Residents of Hari Nagar Opposing the Proposed Road Divider Installation in DA & DB Block
The residents of DA and DB Block in Hari Nagar. New Delhi – 110064, wish to place on record their strong objection to the ongoing and proposed installation of a road divider aimed at closing the existing colony gates & cuts within the locality. This appeal is being made collectively in the larger public interest and with deep concern for the safety, accessibility, and daily convenience of thousands of residents who depend on these internal roads every day.
According to residents, the project is being executed without meaningful consultation with the local community and without adequate assessment of the ground realities of the area. The roads within DA and DB Block are already narrow and heavily congested during peak hours. The installation of a permanent divider on these roads is expected to significantly restrict the movement of vehicles and create severe logistical and safety challenges for the entire neighbourhood.
Residents have pointed out that the current road width is approximately 40 feet. With the addition of a 2-foot divider, the effective width would immediately reduce to 38 feet. Once vehicles are parked on both sides of the road — a common and unavoidable situation in residential colonies — the usable carriageway would shrink to barely 7 to 8 feet. Such limited space would make smooth two-way movement virtually impossible.
The community fears that this could seriously obstruct the passage of school buses, ambulances, fire tenders, delivery vehicles, and residents’ personal vehicles. Daily traffic bottlenecks, increased congestion, and heightened risks for pedestrians are likely outcomes of the proposed construction. Residents believe that instead of improving traffic management, the divider would create confusion, delays, and dangerous choke points within the colony.
Particular concern has been raised regarding the safety of children, senior citizens, and emergency services. In situations requiring urgent medical or fire response, restricted road movement could have grave consequences. Residents argue that the DA and DB Block road network is not a high-speed corridor or a major commercial route that necessitates such infrastructure. As a purely residential area, the locality requires practical and people-centric traffic solutions rather than rigid constructions that reduce accessibility.
The residents further state that the proposal ignores the principles of participatory governance and public convenience. They maintain that any urban planning intervention affecting the daily lives of citizens should involve transparent consultation with the local community before implementation.
In light of these concerns, the residents of DA and DB Block unanimously demand the immediate stoppage of all work related to the divider installation and call upon the concerned authorities and the Government of Delhi to withdraw the proposal entirely.
The residents have also made it clear that if the project proceeds despite widespread public opposition, they will be compelled to escalate the matter before higher administrative authorities, elected representatives, legal forums, and the media to ensure that the collective concerns of the community are heard and addressed.
The appeal concludes with a request to the authorities to act responsibly, reconsider the proposal in the larger public interest, and preserve the safety, accessibility, and livability of the neighbourhood for all residents.
