Asian Games 2026 Day 14: Historic Archery Double For India As Women Win Gold, Mixed Recurve Team Takes Silver
India produced a memorable display in archery on Day 14 of the Asian Games 2026, with the women’s recurve team securing a historic gold medal and the mixed recurve pair of Kumkum Anil Mohod and Dhiraj Bommadevara adding a silver.
The women’s trio of Ankita Bhakat, Kirti Sharma and Kumkum Mohod created history by defeating powerhouse South Korea 5-3 in the final. The victory gave India its first-ever Asian Games gold medal in the women’s recurve team event.
The Indian team had earlier defeated China 5-1 in the semifinal to reach the final for the first time. The trio then held its nerve against South Korea, with India taking the crucial third set 55-52 before the fourth set ended level at 54-54, enough to seal the gold.
Kumkum Shines In Historic Double
Seventeen-year-old Kumkum Mohod played a central role in India’s historic morning, featuring in both the women’s team triumph and the mixed recurve event alongside Dhiraj Bommadevara.
Mohod and Bommadevara defeated Japan 5-3 in their semifinal to book their place in the mixed recurve gold-medal match. India had fallen behind early but fought back to win the final two sets and secure a place in the title clash.
The mixed-team silver added another medal to India’s impressive archery campaign at the Aichi-Nagoya Games.
The Indian pair had entered the Asian Games in strong form after winning the mixed recurve title at the Archery World Cup Stage 3 in Antalya earlier this year. They defeated South Korea 5-1 in that final.
India’s Archery Campaign Gains Momentum
The two medals on Day 14 further strengthened India’s performance in archery at the Asian Games. India had already won three gold medals in compound team events earlier in the Games, with the recurve teams subsequently adding to the medal haul.
The women’s recurve gold was particularly significant, ending India’s wait for its maiden Asian Games title in the event. The team had previously won bronze at the 2023 Hangzhou Asian Games.
India’s recurve campaign also carried added significance because the Asian Games offer qualification opportunities for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics in selected events.
With the historic women’s team gold and mixed-team silver, Day 14 marked another major chapter in India’s archery campaign at the 2026 Asian Games.
