BRICS Summit 2026: Modi to Host World Leaders in New Delhi on September 12-13; Full List of Leaders

New Delhi is set to host the 18th BRICS Leaders’ Summit on September 12 and 13, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi preparing to welcome leaders from the expanded BRICS grouping, partner nations and outreach countries.

India is chairing BRICS this year, with the main summit scheduled to take place at Bharat Mandapam. Discussions are expected to focus on multilateralism, trade and investment, energy and food security, supply chains and reforms in global governance.

BRICS Summit 2026: Main Programme

The leaders’ programme will begin on Saturday, September 12, with heads of the 11 BRICS member countries. Leaders from BRICS partner countries and outreach invitees are expected to participate in the summit programme on Sunday, September 13.

BRICS Member Countries: Who Is Attending?

The 11 full BRICS members are Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Egypt, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Iran, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.

South African President Cyril Ramaphosa has confirmed that he will attend the summit.

António Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations, is also expected to attend the summit, adding a key global governance dimension to the discussions.

Modi to Address BRICS Business Forum on September 11

Before the two-day leaders’ summit, Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to address the BRICS Business Forum in New Delhi on Friday, September 11.

Senior business leaders from China, Russia, Brazil, the UAE and other BRICS countries are expected to participate. Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar are also expected to address the opening session.

The forum will discuss issues including agriculture, trade, investment, supply chains and the digital economy before moving into a leaders’ session expected to be addressed by Modi.

Major Chinese Business Delegation in India

A large Chinese business delegation is visiting India ahead of the BRICS Summit, with prominent executives expected to participate in the business forum.

The delegation is expected to include Houliang Dai, chairman of CNPC; Lin Liao, chairman of ICBC; and Min Wan, chairman of China COSCO Shipping Corporation.

Senior executives from Huawei Technologies and Alibaba Group are also expected to attend.

The Chinese delegation is expected to hold discussions with Indian and other BRICS businesses on trade, investment, technology and supply chains.

Global Corporate Leaders to Join Forum

Senior executives from other BRICS nations are also expected to participate, including:

The companies represented span sectors including energy, banking, technology, shipping, aviation and mining.

Delhi Security Tightened Ahead of Summit

Delhi has mounted a major security operation ahead of the high-profile gathering, with thousands of personnel deployed across key locations, including airports, hotels and the Bharat Mandapam venue.

The security arrangements are expected to remain tight throughout the summit as several heads of government and senior international dignitaries gather in the national capital.

BRICS Expansion: How the Group Grew

BRICS was formed in 2006 by Brazil, Russia, India and China. South Africa joined the grouping in 2010.

Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran and the UAE became members in 2024, while Indonesia later joined as a full member, taking the number of BRICS members to 11.

The 2026 summit in New Delhi will therefore be one of the first major BRICS leaders’ meetings under the expanded 11-member format.
