Abhishek Sharma smashes 233 off 91 balls with 25 sixes in Punjab ODI after Zimbabwe disappointment

India opener Abhishek Sharma returned to form in spectacular fashion on Sunday, hammering 233 runs off just 91 balls in a senior inter-district one-day match in Punjab.

Opening the batting for Amritsar Men Senior against Tarn Taran Men Senior at Gandhi Grounds, Amritsar, Abhishek unleashed a breathtaking assault, smashing 25 sixes and 15 fours at a strike rate of 256.04 to power his side to 533/8 in 50 overs.

An astonishing 210 of his 233 runs came in boundaries—150 through sixes and 60 through fours—while only 23 runs were scored by running between the wickets.

Abhishek shared a blistering 305-run opening partnership with Abhay Choudhary, who made 93 off 85 balls. The pair crossed the 300-run mark in just 24.4 overs, scoring at more than 12 runs an over. After Abhishek’s dismissal, Abhinav Sharma added a quick-fire 51 off 33 balls to keep the scoring rate soaring.

Amritsar finished with 41 sixes and 35 fours, before bowling out Tarn Taran’s hopes despite the opposition posting a respectable 313/8. Arsh Deep Singh scored 108 and Manpreet Singh Sandhu made 62 in the chase, but Amritsar still sealed a commanding 220-run victory.

Abhishek also chipped in with the ball, claiming 2/71 in nine overs, while Prathampal Singh Walia starred with 4/49. The match produced a staggering 846 runs across 100 overs.

Perfect response after Zimbabwe struggles

The explosive knock came just days after Abhishek endured a disappointing T20I series against Zimbabwe, where he managed scores of 1, 8 and 2, totaling only 11 runs in three matches.

While the innings came in the Punjab State Inter-District Senior One Day Limited Overs Tournament and will not count as an official List A record, it served as a powerful reminder of Abhishek’s explosive batting ability.

His 233 accounted for nearly 44 per cent of Amritsar’s total, and he struck a boundary every 2.28 balls, highlighting the relentless nature of his innings.

Although performances at the inter-district level cannot be directly compared with international cricket, the knock provided a timely boost in confidence and showcased the destructive strokeplay that has made Abhishek Sharma one of India’s most exciting white-ball batters.
