Spider-Man: Brand New Day shatters box office records with $927 million global debut

Tom Holland’s return as Spider-Man has delivered one of the biggest box office openings in cinematic history. Spider-Man: Brand New Day, released worldwide on July 31, has earned a staggering $927 million globally in its opening weekend, becoming the second-biggest worldwide debut of all time, behind only Avengers: Endgame.

Record-breaking global opening

According to Reuters, the Marvel blockbuster grossed $355 million in North America, making it the second-largest domestic opening ever, just behind Avengers: Endgame‘s $357.1 million.

Internationally, the film collected $572 million across 66 markets. China led overseas earnings with $121 million, marking Marvel’s biggest post-pandemic opening in the country. The UK followed with $49 million, while Mexico contributed $38.3 million and South Korea $25 million.

Several countries also recorded all-time Hollywood opening weekend records. India topped the list with $31.8 million, followed by France ($26.6 million), Brazil ($23.8 million) and Spain ($15.6 million).

Surpasses previous Marvel hits

Spider-Man: Brand New Day comfortably outperformed Spider-Man: No Way Home, which debuted with $600 million worldwide and $260 million domestically in 2021. It also surpassed the global opening of Avengers: Infinity War, which earned $640 million during its debut weekend.

About the film

Set four years after Spider-Man: No Way Home, the story follows Peter Parker (Tom Holland), whose identity has been erased from everyone’s memory after Doctor Strange’s spell. Living an isolated life while continuing to protect New York as Spider-Man, Peter is drawn into a new crisis after a series of mysterious crimes and a dangerous transformation threaten the world.

With no one remembering who he is, Peter finds unexpected allies in Frank Castle (Jon Bernthal) and Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo) as he confronts his biggest challenge yet.

Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings), the film stars Tom Holland, Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Sadie Sink, Jon Bernthal and Mark Ruffalo.
