Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday shared photographs from the G7 Summit in Evian, France, including a group picture featuring several world leaders such as US President Donald Trump, French President Emmanuel Macron and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.

“With fellow leaders at the G7 Summit in Evian. We will keep working together to advance prosperity, sustainability and human well-being,” Modi wrote while sharing the images on social media.

Modi also held talks with Trump on the sidelines of the summit, a meeting that comes as India and the United States continue negotiations on a bilateral trade agreement. The two leaders were seen greeting each other warmly and sitting together during the summit proceedings. Their last in-person meeting took place in Washington in February 2025.

The interaction assumes added significance amid ongoing differences over Trump’s repeated claims that he helped broker peace between India and Pakistan following the May 2025 conflict that erupted after Operation Sindoor. New Delhi has consistently rejected those assertions, maintaining that the ceasefire was achieved without third-party mediation.

The meeting also comes against the backdrop of India’s strong protest to Washington over the deaths of Indian sailors in strikes in the Gulf of Oman during the ongoing conflict involving Iran.

Apart from Trump, Modi met several other leaders, including European Council President Antonio Costa, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

Modi and Meloni share light moment

A video from the summit that has gone viral showed Modi sharing a light-hearted exchange with Meloni as leaders assembled for the customary family photograph. Meloni was heard greeting Modi warmly, with the two sharing a brief laugh before joining the other leaders.

The interaction drew attention weeks after a social media post by the Italian leader featuring Modi generated millions of views online. During their previous meeting in Rome in May, Meloni had also shared a light-hearted video involving chocolates gifted by the Indian Prime Minister.

Global South remains key focus

The two-day summit marks the eighth consecutive G7 gathering to which India has been invited. Ahead of his departure for Europe, Modi said he would use the platform to highlight the concerns and aspirations of developing nations.

“India’s presence at the G7 reflects the trust our partners place in us and our growing global profile. At the G7, India will not only speak for itself, but it will also give voice to the aspirations of the Global South,” he said in a statement before the summit.
