Suryakumar Yadav Mentors Oman Players, Shows True Spirit of Sportsmanship
India survived a scare against Oman, winning by 21 runs to remain unbeaten as they advance to the Super Four stage of the Asia Cup 2025.
After the match, Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav drew praise for his gesture of mentoring Omani players. Oman skipper Jatinder Singh said, “Surya spoke about the game and praised us, which means a lot. Our boys had questions on how to play in different phases of T20 cricket. It was really nice to have a chat with him.” Players from both sides were later seen taking photos together, reflecting the spirit of camaraderie on display.
Match Highlights
India batted first after winning the toss, finishing on 188/8 in 20 overs. Early loss of Shubman Gill tested the team, but Abhishek Sharma’s explosive 38 off 15 balls kept momentum, allowing Sanju Samson to settle at the crease. Notably, captain Suryakumar Yadav did not bat.
Oman’s chase began strongly with openers Jatinder Singh and Aamir Kaleem putting on 56 runs. After Singh’s dismissal, Hammad Mirza and Kaleem continued to anchor the innings, both scoring half-centuries. As the game neared the death overs, Hardik Pandya turned the match with two crucial wickets — first dismissing Kaleem (64 off 46) in the outfield and then Mirza (51 off 33) — securing a 21-run victory for India, with Oman finishing on 167/4.
India will now face arch-rivals Pakistan on Sunday, September 15, at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, marking the start of the Super Four stage.
