Golden Temple Receives Bomb Threat; Punjab Police Launch Probe, Security Tightened
The Golden Temple in Amritsar received a bomb threat via email on Monday, prompting swift action by the Punjab Police and a tightening of security across the shrine’s premises.
The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), which oversees the temple’s administration, lodged a complaint after receiving the threatening email earlier in the day. The message warned of a blast at the sacred site, raising immediate alarm.
Amritsar Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar confirmed the threat and said a formal investigation has been initiated. “We received a complaint from the SGPC about an email threatening a blast in the Golden Temple. We are coordinating with the state cybercrime cell and other agencies. The matter is being taken very seriously,” Bhullar told ANI.
He added that an FIR has been registered, and a multi-agency probe is underway. “We are confident we will crack the case soon. There is no need to panic. All necessary precautions are being taken,” he assured.
Security Stepped Up Around Shrine
In response to the threat, bomb disposal squads, SGPC security personnel, and additional police forces have been deployed across the Golden Temple complex and surrounding areas. Authorities emphasized that foolproof security arrangements are in place.
Police have also urged the public to remain calm and report any suspicious activity.
Amritsar MP Demands Swift Action
Reacting to the development, Amritsar MP Gurjeet Singh Aujla called for immediate and strong action, stressing that security around Sri Harmandir Sahib must not be compromised.
“An email threatening to blow up the Golden Temple with RDX has been received. This is not just a threat to a religious site—it’s an attack on peace, faith, and humanity,” Aujla posted on X, tagging Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann and Punjab DGP.
He emphasized the need for heightened vigilance. “This sacred place is visited by lakhs of devotees and tourists every day. We cannot afford any lapse in security or intelligence. All departments must remain on high alert. We stand united to protect our heritage,” he added.
