Zubeen Garg Death Case: Five of Seven Accused, Including Manager and Cousin, Remanded to 14-Day Judicial Custody
Five primary accused in the death case of Assamese singer Zubeen Garg—including his cousin Sandipan Garg and manager Siddhartha Sharma—have been sent to 14-day judicial custody as the investigation continues. The others remanded are Shyamkanu Mahanta, Nandeswar Bora, and Paresh Baishya.
Officials noted that none of the accused were represented by lawyers, and no bail applications were filed. They are expected to be lodged at Guwahati Central Jail while the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Assam CID continues its probe.
SIT chief and Special DGP (CID) Munna Prasad Gupta confirmed that the five accused were produced in court after completing their police custody. “We had arrested seven people, and the police custody of five persons has been completed, so we are producing them before the court today. The custody of the remaining two will be over the day after tomorrow,” he told ANI.
Gupta also added that two witnesses have already recorded statements at the CID office, with one more expected soon. “That takes the total to 10 people who have appeared before the CID. We have also received a communication requesting the names of officers who will be visiting Singapore for an investigation, which is a standard process. We are waiting for their response,” he said.
The arrests come nearly a month after Zubeen Garg’s sudden death on September 19, which triggered public outrage and calls for a transparent investigation. The Assam Police formed an SIT following preliminary findings that revealed inconsistencies in the events leading to his death. Multiple individuals linked to the singer’s personal and professional circles have been questioned since.
The current judicial remand marks a significant stage in the ongoing probe, which is expected to expand further in the coming days, including potential international inquiries.
