World Leaders Congratulate PM Modi on Becoming India’s Longest-Serving Elected Prime Minister

Congratulatory messages from world leaders, lawmakers and prominent public figures poured in on Wednesday after Prime Minister Narendra Modi became the longest-serving elected prime minister in India’s history, marking 12 years in office and setting a new record for continuous tenure.

Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake extended warm wishes to Modi, reaffirming Colombo’s commitment to strengthening ties with New Delhi. In a message shared by his office, Dissanayake praised the milestone and reiterated Sri Lanka’s dedication to deepening its longstanding partnership with India.

Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim also hailed Modi’s achievement, describing it as a reflection of years of dedicated public service and leadership. He credited Modi with advancing India’s development, prosperity and global influence, while expressing optimism about further expanding cooperation between Malaysia and India.

Across the Atlantic, US lawmakers highlighted Modi’s role in transforming India’s economy and elevating bilateral ties. Senator John Cornyn praised the Indian leader’s record, pointing to economic growth, poverty reduction and the strengthening of the US-India relationship during his tenure. He described Modi’s leadership as transformative and said ties between Washington and New Delhi had never been stronger.

Senator Bill Hagerty similarly congratulated Modi, noting that the India-US partnership had evolved into a comprehensive and strategic relationship under his leadership.

International singer Mary Millben also paid tribute to the prime minister, calling the milestone a landmark moment for Indian democracy. Describing Modi’s political journey as an embodiment of the “Indian dream,” she praised his leadership, vision for a stronger India and efforts to enhance the country’s global standing while deepening ties with the United States.

Modi first assumed office in May 2014 and is currently serving his third consecutive term after the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance secured victory in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. His latest milestone further cements his place in India’s political history as the country’s longest-serving elected prime minister.
