Want Shiny, Healthy Hair? Jawed Habib Shares a Simple, Traditional Routine
Struggling with frizzy, dull hair after every wash? You’re not alone—but celebrity hairstylist Jawed Habib has a surprisingly simple solution rooted in traditional Indian practices.
In an Instagram video shared by Coverstory With Falak Khan, Habib revealed his go-to everyday haircare routine for achieving smooth, shiny tresses.
Daily Haircare, the Traditional Way
When asked about the best way to care for hair on a daily basis, Habib recommended a method inspired by the age-old Indian Hamam tradition.
Step 1: Wash Your Hair Daily
Yes, you read that right. According to Habib, daily washing is key. But it’s not just about using shampoo—there’s a twist.
Step 2: Oil Your Wet Hair
“First, wet your hair and then apply oil,” Habib said. He emphasized using region-specific oils that suit your climate.
-
Mustard oil (sarson ka tel) for those in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh
-
Coconut oil for people living in South India
“This Bhartiya way is both effective and economical,” he added.
Avoid the Champi, Says Habib
While oiling is essential, Habib issued a clear warning against champi—the traditional head massage. “Champi can damage your hair and lead to breakage,” he noted. Instead, he advised those with long hair to gently comb their oiled tresses, let it sit for five minutes, and then wash it off.
What About Shampoo?
Habib kept it simple here too: “Use any shampoo you like.” No need for expensive, oil-infused or brand-heavy products—just a cleanser that works for you.
By adopting this simple, regional oil-based routine, you can bring the benefits of a traditional Hamam right into your home—no salon visit required.
