US Shoots Down Two Iranian Drones Near Strait of Hormuz as Gulf Tensions Escalate

1

The US military said late Saturday that it had intercepted and destroyed two Iranian attack drones that it said posed a threat to international shipping in the strategic Strait of Hormuz, marking the latest military confrontation between Washington and Tehran amid rising regional tensions.

According to US Central Command (CENTCOM), American forces acted after the drones approached key maritime routes used by global energy and commercial vessels. The military said US troops remain on high alert and are prepared to respond to further Iranian actions.

The incident followed a similar clash on Friday, when CENTCOM said it shot down four Iranian attack drones headed toward the strait and later carried out strikes on Iranian coastal surveillance radar installations. The exchange of attacks comes as tensions continue to mount in the Gulf, with Iran also launching a barrage of missiles on Saturday targeting US allies Bahrain and Kuwait.

The latest flare-up underscores the fragile security situation in the region, even as Washington and Tehran remain engaged in indirect diplomatic efforts aimed at ending the conflict.
