UP govt announces free roadways bus travel for women aged 60 and above
The Uttar Pradesh government has earmarked ₹100 crore in the First Supplementary Budget for 2026-27 to reimburse the Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) for implementing its free bus travel scheme for senior women.
The initiative, promised by the Bharatiya Janata Party in its Lok Kalyan Sankalp Patra, aims to provide financial relief to millions of elderly women, enabling them to travel more easily for religious, social, family and healthcare-related purposes.
The supplementary budget also provides an additional ₹1,094.40 crore to the Women Welfare Department to strengthen key welfare schemes, including the Destitute Women Pension Scheme, the Mukhyamantri Bal Seva Yojana, and programmes focused on the protection and welfare of women and children.
The allocations underscore the state government’s focus on enhancing women’s safety, social security, financial support and overall empowerment.
