UK warns Hajj pilgrims to leave Saudi Arabia before visa expiry or face penalties

The UK government has urged British citizens performing Hajj in Saudi Arabia to leave the Kingdom before their visas expire, warning that overstaying could result in hefty fines, deportation and future travel restrictions.

In an advisory issued as the annual pilgrimage season nears its conclusion, authorities stressed the importance of complying with Saudi visa regulations and making travel arrangements well in advance of departure dates.

Millions of Muslims from around the world travel to Saudi Arabia each year for Hajj, one of the largest religious gatherings globally. With the pilgrimage drawing to a close, the UK government said pilgrims should carefully monitor the validity of their visas to avoid legal complications.

Officials warned that overstaying a visa in Saudi Arabia can carry severe consequences, including substantial financial penalties and potential bans on re-entering the country.

The advisory comes amid concerns that some travellers may inadvertently remain in the Kingdom beyond their authorised stay due to busy schedules, travel disruptions or misunderstandings regarding visa conditions.

The UK government urged pilgrims to verify their visa expiry dates and ensure that return travel plans allow sufficient time to leave Saudi Arabia before those deadlines.

Authorities also encouraged British nationals to seek assistance from the UK’s diplomatic mission in Saudi Arabia if they encounter visa-related issues or require support during their stay.

In addition to complying with immigration requirements, pilgrims were advised to safeguard travel documents, remain informed about local regulations and take appropriate health precautions throughout their journey.

The UK said the guidance is intended to promote safe and responsible travel while helping pilgrims avoid unnecessary legal or financial difficulties during and after the Hajj season.

Officials added that careful planning and adherence to visa conditions can help ensure a smooth pilgrimage experience and prevent disruptions to future travel to Saudi Arabia.
