US President Donald Trump is expected to hold talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in France next week, according to a White House official. The Indian government has not yet officially confirmed the meeting.

PM Modi has begun a week-long visit to France and Slovakia, during which he will attend the G7 Summit in Evian on June 16-17.

Senior US administration officials said Trump is also scheduled to meet leaders from the Middle East and participate in a working session with Volodymyr Zelensky during the summit.

The US president is expected to discuss efforts to de-mine the Strait of Hormuz as Washington and Tehran move closer to a potential peace agreement aimed at ending months of regional conflict.

PM Modi on G7 Summit and France visit

In his departure statement, Modi said India’s continued invitation to the G7 reflects the trust placed in the country by global partners and its growing international influence.

“This is the eighth consecutive G7 Summit to which India has been invited. At the G7, India will not only speak for itself, but it will also give voice to the aspirations of the Global South,” the prime minister said.

Highlighting the importance of his visit to France, Modi said the country holds a special place in India’s strategic outlook. He also described his trip to Slovakia as a significant milestone in bilateral relations.

“France occupies a special place in India’s strategic vision. Earlier this year, President Emmanuel Macron visited India, and we elevated our relationship to a Special Global Strategic Partnership,” Modi said.

The visit comes as India seeks to deepen engagement with key European partners while expanding its role in global forums and representing the interests of developing nations.
