Tere Naam, Rangeela set for sequels; original stars’ return remains uncertain

Entertainment major Eros International has unveiled an ambitious new content strategy featuring mythology-inspired originals, franchise expansions of popular films and the restoration of classic cinema.

Announced during the London Tech Week on Wednesday, the initiative is built around three pillars: Eros Brahmand, Eros Universe and Eros Remastered.

One of the biggest highlights is Eros Universe, which will expand several popular Bollywood titles into franchise properties with new stories and characters. The slate includes sequels or spin-offs of Tanu Weds Manu, Phobia, English Vinglish, Desi Boyz, Rangeela and Tere Naam.

The announcement suggests that new installments will not necessarily feature the original stars. As a result, characters made famous by actors such as Salman Khan in Tere Naam and Aamir Khan and Urmila Matondkar in Rangeela may not return in future versions.

Among the projects, Tanu Weds Manu – The Next Chapter has generated particular curiosity. The franchise previously starred Kangana Ranaut and R. Madhavan, though it remains unclear whether either actor will reprise their role. The film will be directed by Mitakshara Kumar and is scheduled to begin production in 2026.

The company’s most ambitious venture, however, is Eros Brahmand, an AI-driven cinematic universe inspired by Indian mythology and folklore. The interconnected universe will comprise nine original titles: Nandi – War of Kailasa, Dwaarka: Gateway to the Universe, Vimaan Wars, Mahabharat 5000 A.D., Yakshinis, Brahmarakshak, Garuda, Kumbhayanna and Mansa Devi.

“These stories bring together mythology-inspired originals, beloved film franchises and classic cinema under one umbrella,” said Kishore Lulla. “Our goal is to create narratives that connect with audiences across generations and formats.”

The third initiative, Eros Remastered, will focus on restoring and reimagining classic films for modern audiences. The programme will begin with Kochadaiiyaan, starring Rajinikanth. The restoration and reimagining project will be led creatively by Soundarya Rajinikanth.
