Sensex gains 500 pts; Nifty tops 24,200; India VIX slumps over 17%

The Nifty50 and the Sensex advanced as Asian equities advanced and global bond yields fell.

As of 12:00 PM, the Sensex rose 541.64 points or 0.7 per cent to 77,451.32 and the Nifty50 was up 131.65 points or 0.55 per cent at 24,209.95.

In the broader markets, the Nifty MidCap and the Nifty SmallCap were trading 0.68 per cent and 1.03 per cent higher, respectively.

Sector-wise, the Nifty IT, the Nifty Private Bank, and the Nifty Realty outperformed, while the Nifty Auto and the Nifty Oil and Gas declined the most.
