PM Modi On BRICS Day 2: ‘Strength Lies In Our Diversity And Cooperation

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said India’s BRICS chairship focused on four key pillars — resilience, innovation, cooperation and sustainability — as he addressed the opening session of the second day of the BRICS Summit in New Delhi.

With Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping seated on either side of him, PM Modi said India had worked to translate the grouping’s shared vision into practical, mutually beneficial cooperation.

“I am happy that with all your cooperation and support, we are transforming our shared vision into win-win cooperation,” Modi said.

The Prime Minister said India had used the BRICS platform to advance friendship, participation and cooperation, while stressing that the grouping’s work should extend beyond governments.

“Our endeavour has been to ensure that BRICS cooperation does not remain limited to governments alone. Our entrepreneurs, farmers, researchers, women, youth and ordinary citizens must also become active participants,” he said.

PM Modi Pushes For Inclusive Global Growth

A key theme of Modi’s address was inclusivity. He said BRICS should work towards global growth that benefits countries beyond the grouping and remains accessible to the wider Global South.

“We have sought to promote inclusive global growth through BRICS. This is because we believe that the solutions developed within BRICS should not benefit BRICS countries alone. They should be made adaptable and accessible to the needs of the Global South,” Modi said.

He said the confidence of Global South countries in BRICS had increased because their voices were being heard and their experiences respected.

“Their voices are heard, their experiences are respected, and solutions are created not just for them, but together with them,” the Prime Minister said, citing his experience.

‘Strength Of BRICS Lies In Our Diversity’

Modi also highlighted the diversity of the expanded BRICS grouping, saying cooperation among countries with different realities was central to its strength.

“The strength of BRICS lies in our diversity and cooperation. We may be rooted in different realities, but together we rise through cooperation and blossom for humanity,” he said.

BRICS Summit 2026 In New Delhi

Prime Minister Modi opened the high-profile BRICS Summit at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi on Saturday, with the capital under heightened security arrangements for the arrival of several world leaders, including Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The expanded BRICS grouping currently comprises 11 countries: Brazil, China, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Indonesia, Iran, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa and the United Arab Emirates.

BRICS describes itself as a platform for consultation and cooperation on contemporary issues of global and regional significance, including matters related to global political and economic governance.
