Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday launched the next phase of the regional air connectivity scheme, Viksit UDAN, aimed at expanding affordable air travel to Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities as well as remote parts of the country. He also inaugurated the new terminal building at Jodhpur Airport in Rajasthan, marking a significant push to India’s civil aviation infrastructure.

Speaking after the launch, Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu said Viksit UDAN would usher in the next phase of India’s regional connectivity programme. With an outlay of more than ₹28,840 crore, the scheme seeks to strengthen air links across smaller cities and underserved regions.

According to the minister, the initiative will support the development of over 100 new aerodromes and 200 helipads, making affordable air travel accessible to millions while boosting regional economic growth.

Highlighting the inauguration of the new terminal at Jodhpur Airport, Naidu said the modern facility would enhance connectivity across the Marwar region and create new opportunities for tourism, trade and investment in Rajasthan.

The event was attended by Rajasthan Governor Haribhau Kisanrao Bagde, Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, Union Tourism and Culture Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Minister of State for Civil Aviation Murlidhar Mohol and other dignitaries.
