Parliament set for key legislative push today: Anti-paper leak Bill, Supreme Court judges law on agenda

The Centre is set to press ahead with a packed legislative agenda in Parliament on Monday, with the Lok Sabha scheduled to consider and pass a Bill to strengthen the anti-paper leak law, alongside legislation to increase the number of judges in the Supreme Court. The Rajya Sabha will take up amendments to the law on preventing insults to national honour.

Anti-paper leak Bill:
Union Minister Jitendra Singh will introduce the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026, which seeks to strengthen the existing 2024 law against paper leaks and exam-related malpractice. The government is expected to push for the Bill’s immediate consideration and passage amid heightened concerns over examination irregularities.

Supreme Court judges Bill:
Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal will move the Supreme Court (Number of Judges) Amendment Bill, 2026 for discussion and passage. The legislation is expected to face opposition, with several MPs set to challenge the ordinance issued on the matter earlier this year.

Other Lok Sabha business:
The House will also table reports by the Standing Committee on Chemicals and Fertilisers, including one on rising medicine prices and another on the disinvestment of fertiliser PSUs. Several ministers will lay official papers, while Minister of State Suresh Gopi is scheduled to present statements on the implementation of parliamentary committee recommendations related to the petroleum sector.

Rajya Sabha agenda:
Home Minister Amit Shah will move the Prevention of Insults to National Honour (Amendment) Bill, 2026 for consideration and passage, aiming to strengthen legal protections for national symbols and honours. Ministers of state from the coal, defence, mines, and housing ministries will also table official papers in the Upper House.
