‘Must-Watch Show’: England Media Hails Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Ahead of India Tour
At just 15 years old, rising Indian batting sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has become one of cricket’s most talked-about names — despite not yet making his international debut.
What was expected to be his biggest challenge, the 2026 IPL season, instead turned into a statement campaign that accelerated his journey into the national setup. Sooryavanshi had already captured attention with a blistering 35-ball century for Rajasthan Royals last year, but few anticipated the scale of what followed.
The teenager dominated IPL 2026, piling up 776 runs at a staggering strike rate of 237.3. He smashed a record 72 sixes and collected five individual awards, producing numbers that made it impossible for selectors to ignore him. When the BCCI announced squads for the upcoming tours of England and Ireland, along with the Asian Games, Sooryavanshi’s name featured in all three.
His selection for the England tour has generated considerable excitement overseas, with British media already building anticipation around his arrival. During a Sky Sports discussion at Lord’s, former England captain Mike Atherton highlighted a newspaper headline describing Sooryavanshi as “this summer’s must-watch show” and noted the growing buzz surrounding the young batter.
Journalist Elizabeth Ammon said the England and Wales Cricket Board would likely welcome his inclusion because of the additional interest it could generate among fans. She also pointed to the fearless manner in which Sooryavanshi has taken on some of the world’s leading bowlers from the very first ball.
Former England batter Mark Butcher admitted he struggled to explain the youngster’s remarkable six-hitting ability, describing his tournament-long strike rate as extraordinary and praising his intent and hand-eye coordination.
Atherton later joked that he would have loved to see Sooryavanshi tackle the challenging Lord’s pitch used for the opening Test between England and New Zealand, where uneven bounce and seam movement had troubled established international batters.
The England series will provide the sternest test yet of Sooryavanshi’s talent, with conditions vastly different from those encountered during the IPL. Before then, he is set to represent India A in a one-day tri-series in Sri Lanka and feature in a two-match T20I series against Ireland.
Whether he succeeds immediately or not, one thing is already clear: Sooryavanshi’s reputation has travelled well beyond India, and cricket fans across England are eagerly awaiting their first glimpse of the teenage phenomenon in international colours.
