Modi gives ministers 3 key messages: Speed up governance, brace for energy shocks, stay focused on Viksit Bharat
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday outlined three major priorities for his council of ministers — accelerating governance, preparing for possible energy disruptions linked to tensions in West Asia, and maintaining focus on the long-term vision of “Viksit Bharat 2047”.
The meeting, which lasted more than four hours, took place amid concerns over the economic fallout from the ongoing conflict in West Asia and growing uncertainty around global energy supplies.
Speed and efficiency in governance
Reinforcing his repeated emphasis on administrative reforms, Modi reportedly urged ministers to eliminate bureaucratic delays and ensure faster delivery of government services.
According to people familiar with the discussions, the Prime Minister stressed that files should not remain stuck in lengthy administrative processes and asked ministries to simplify procedures and improve transparency.
He also highlighted the need to improve “ease of living” for citizens and called for faster implementation of central schemes, particularly those facing delays in some states.
The message was clear: governance should remain focused on delivery and future targets rather than relying on previous achievements.
Energy preparedness amid global uncertainty
A major focus of the meeting was energy security as geopolitical tensions continue to raise concerns over fuel supplies and global oil markets.
Modi reportedly called for greater emphasis on alternative energy sources, including biogas and renewable energy, amid fears that disruptions in critical shipping routes could affect supplies of crude oil, natural gas and fertilisers.
India imports a significant share of its energy requirements, making global supply disruptions a key concern for policymakers. Rising crude prices and broader market volatility have already added pressure to domestic energy planning.
The discussions also reflected wider concerns over how prolonged instability in West Asia could affect inflation and economic activity.
‘Viksit Bharat 2047’ as a long-term commitment
The Prime Minister also reiterated the government’s development roadmap, saying that the goal of transforming India into a developed nation by 2047 should be viewed as more than a political slogan.
He urged ministers to pursue reforms that directly improve quality of life and ensure welfare initiatives reach intended beneficiaries more effectively.
Officials present at the meeting said Modi asked ministers to continuously evaluate new targets and remain focused on future goals rather than becoming complacent with past successes.
The meeting also included presentations on governance reforms, implementation of flagship programmes and foreign policy developments by senior government officials and ministers.
The discussions came at a politically significant moment, with speculation over possible cabinet changes and increasing opposition criticism over inflation, fuel prices and broader economic pressures.
