Pop superstar Katy Perry, BLACKPINK member Lisa and rapper Future headlined a star-studded FIFA World Cup 2026 opening ceremony at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles on Friday, kicking off the United States leg of football’s biggest tournament in spectacular fashion.

Perry captivated fans with an emotional performance of Wonder ahead of the United States’ opening match against Paraguay. She was joined on stage by Tius Luka, who featured on the song as a child artist in 2021, while her eye-catching silver outfit quickly became a talking point online.

Future and Tyla energized the crowd with Game Time, one of the tournament’s official songs, while Lisa brought K-pop flair to the ceremony with a performance of Goals alongside Brazilian singer Anitta and Nigerian star Rema. The trio’s high-energy set featured elaborate choreography and sports-themed visuals.

The Los Angeles event was one of three opening ceremonies held across the tournament’s host nations. Mexico City hosted the first celebration, featuring performances by Shakira and Burna Boy, while Toronto’s ceremony showcased artists including Alanis Morissette, Alessia Cara, Michael Bublé and Nora Fatehi.

The FIFA World Cup 2026, jointly hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico, is the largest edition of the tournament so far, with 48 teams competing across North America. The competition began on June 11 and will conclude with the final on July 19.
