Ileana D’Cruz Reveals Breastfeeding Struggles: ‘It Was Intensely Painful’
Actress Ileana D’Cruz, mother of two sons with husband Michael Dolan, shared candid insights into her early motherhood journey during an Instagram Live on August 30 for Live for Freedom To Feed. Their first child, Koa Phoenix Dolan, was born on August 1, 2023, followed by their second son, Keanu Rafe Dolan, on June 19, 2025. The family resides in Houston, Texas.
Speaking with actor Neha Dhupia, Ileana reflected on the intense, sometimes painful, realities of breastfeeding. “It was definitely painful initially… there were complications I had no idea about,” she said. Yet, she emphasized that breastfeeding is also a privilege, allowing mothers to bond deeply with their children. “The connection that you can have with your baby is really lovely,” she noted.
Ileana also shared her experiences navigating advice from others, including a hospital lactation consultant whose judgment initially overwhelmed her. “Every woman has her own journey with her child… what’s best for your kid is instinctive,” she said, highlighting the importance of trusting one’s own instincts amid conflicting guidance.
She recalled moments of confusion and stress, such as when differing recommendations about pumping milk left her worried and in pain. Over time, however, Ileana learned to navigate these challenges with confidence and patience, embracing the highs and lows of early motherhood.
