Disha Salian Death Case: CBI Probe Begins After Bombay High Court Order, Aaditya Thackeray Among Names In FIR

The Disha Salian death case has returned to the spotlight after the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) registered an FIR and began a fresh probe following directions from the Bombay High Court.

Salian’s death in Mumbai in June 2020 has been the subject of allegations and political controversy for years, with her family seeking a fresh investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death.

CBI Registers FIR

According to reports, the Bombay High Court on September 2, 2026, directed the CBI to register an FIR and conduct a comprehensive investigation into the case. The agency subsequently registered the case.

The FIR reportedly covers allegations including murder, gang rape, conspiracy and destruction of evidence. These are allegations at this stage and have not been established in court.

The CBI is expected to examine the available evidence and reconstruct the events surrounding Salian’s death.

Aaditya Thackeray Among Names Mentioned

Reports on the CBI FIR have mentioned Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray among several names in connection with the allegations being investigated. The names of actor Sooraj Pancholi and actress Rhea Chakraborty have also surfaced in reports related to the case.

However, being named in an FIR or in allegations does not establish criminal wrongdoing or guilt. The allegations will have to be examined and established through the investigation and judicial process.

How Did Disha Salian Die?

Disha Salian was a celebrity manager who had briefly worked with late actor Sushant Singh Rajput. She died on June 8, 2020, after falling from a high-rise building in Mumbai’s Malad area.

The Mumbai Police initially registered the matter as an Accidental Death Report (ADR).

Salian’s father, Satish Salian, later sought registration of an FIR and a fresh investigation into the circumstances of his daughter’s death.

Father Sought Murder Probe

Salian’s father has alleged that his daughter’s death was not a simple accident and has repeatedly sought an independent investigation into the matter.

The Bombay High Court proceedings followed his demand for an FIR and a fresh probe into the circumstances surrounding her death.

With the CBI now investigating the case, the agency may examine the events preceding the death, people who were present at the relevant time, digital records, forensic evidence and other material connected with the case.

Sanjay Raut Questions CBI Action

Following the registration of the FIR, Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut alleged that the CBI action was politically motivated and aimed at tarnishing the image of the Thackeray family.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, meanwhile, said there should be no speculation and that the CBI should be allowed to conduct its investigation.

The CBI will now investigate the allegations mentioned in the FIR and examine the evidence available in the case. The agency could question people connected with the case and examine documentary, digital and forensic evidence.
