Cyclone Arnab: Over 1 Lakh Evacuated in Odisha and Andhra Pradesh as Storm Hits Coast
More than one lakh people were evacuated in Odisha and Andhra Pradesh as Cyclone Arnab crossed the Andhra Pradesh coast on Wednesday, bringing heavy rainfall and strong winds, officials said.
The Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority said more than 84,000 people had been moved to safer locations ahead of the cyclone’s landfall. Authorities warned that Kakinada, Konaseema and East Godavari districts could experience gale-force winds of 125–135 kmph as the landfall process continued.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu urged residents in coastal areas to remain indoors, follow official advisories and cooperate with emergency response teams.
No injuries or casualties had been reported at the time of the update. However, some old, uninhabited buildings collapsed amid the severe weather conditions.
Authorities in both states continued monitoring the situation and coordinating evacuation and relief measures to minimise the impact of the cyclone.
