Barely 24 hours after Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) co-convenors Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka were released from Tihar Jail, the two have been summoned by the Delhi Police Crime Branch in connection with a trespassing case.

According to sources in the Delhi Police, Das, Ranka and CJP member Ajinkya Shinde have been asked to appear at the Crime Branch office in Rajouri Garden by noon on Thursday.

The summons comes after two cases were registered against Das and Ranka on October 13, when they allegedly jumped barricades to enter the protest site at Jantar Mantar and unfurled the Indian national flag. The cases, initially registered by the local police, have now been transferred to the Crime Branch for further investigation.

The latest development marks a fresh turn in the legal proceedings involving the CJP co-convenors, who were recently released from Tihar Jail. Their appearance before the Crime Branch is expected to form part of the investigation into the circumstances surrounding their entry into the protest site and the alleged trespassing.

The incident on October 13 brought Das and Ranka into the spotlight after they allegedly crossed police barricades at Jantar Mantar, a prominent venue for demonstrations in the national capital, and unfurled the Tricolour.

With the two cases now under the Crime Branch, investigators are expected to examine the circumstances of the incident and the allegations against those named in the cases. However, further details regarding the scope of the inquiry and the specific questions the three CJP members may face were not immediately available.

The summons comes shortly after the release of Das and Ranka from Tihar Jail, placing the party’s co-convenors back in the midst of a police investigation. The next steps in the case will depend on the investigation and any further action taken by the Delhi Police.
