Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds were notably absent from Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s star-studded wedding celebrations, adding to speculation about the status of the once-close friendship between the singer and the actor.

According to People, Lively and Reynolds did not attend the couple’s wedding at New York City’s Madison Square Garden on Friday, July 3. The pair were also missing from the rehearsal dinner held the previous evening.

Instead, TMZ reported that the couple spent the holiday weekend with their family in Lake Placid, New York. Their six-year-old daughter, Betty, was participating in a horse show, while their other children — James, 11, Inez, 9, and Olin, 3 — were also with them.

Why were Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds absent?

Neither Lively nor Reynolds has publicly commented on their absence from the wedding.

Their decision to skip the celebrations comes amid reports that Lively’s friendship with Swift has cooled following the actor’s legal dispute with It Ends With Us director and co-star Justin Baldoni.

Lively accused Baldoni of sexual harassment, and media reports suggested she had hoped Swift would publicly support her during the controversy. Swift, however, reportedly chose to remain uninvolved, leading to speculation that the relationship between the longtime friends had become strained.

Swift and Lively were previously known for their close friendship, frequently appearing together at NFL games, parties and public events. Lively has also said that Swift is the godmother of her children, who have been referenced in the singer’s music.

A private wedding with a star-studded guest list

Despite taking place in the heart of New York City, Swift and Kelce’s wedding was an intimate, tightly guarded affair.

Reports said actor Adam Sandler officiated the ceremony. The couple also broke with tradition by opting against bridesmaids and groomsmen. Swift’s brother, Austin Swift, served as her “man of honor,” while Kelce’s brother, Jason Kelce, was his best man.

The guest list reportedly included Bradley Cooper, Gigi Hadid, Lena Dunham, Dakota Johnson, Ellie Goulding, Jenny Han, Graham Norton, Hugh Grant, Miranda Lambert, Kelsea Ballerini and Kimberly Schlapman.

Celebrity couples such as Ed Sheeran and Cherry Seaborn, Mariska Hargitay and Peter Hermann, Karlie Kloss and Joshua Kushner, Matthew and Kelly Stafford, Charissa Thompson and Steve Cundari, and Abby Wambach and Glennon Doyle were also reported to be in attendance.
