Gurugram Imposes Section 163 Restrictions Around Exam Centres From Oct 1 To 24
Prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) have been imposed in Gurugram to regulate movement around examination centres during the Haryana Board of School Education examinations from October 1 to October 24, officials said.
The examinations for secondary, including academic and open-book categories, senior secondary, and first- and second-year Diploma in Education (D.Ed) courses will be held daily from Thursday.
Restrictions Around Examination Centres
According to an order issued by Gurugram Deputy Commissioner Uttam Singh, photocopy and xerox shops, cyber cafes and similar establishments located near examination centres will remain closed from one-and-a-half hours before the examination begins until it ends.
The order also prohibits carrying weapons within a 500-metre radius of examination centres.
Unauthorised persons without valid identity cards will not be allowed to enter examination centres. Unlawful gatherings around examination venues intended to disrupt or obstruct examinations have also been prohibited.
Action Against Violators
Officials said anyone violating the restrictions could face action under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which deals with disobedience of an order duly promulgated by a public servant, along with other applicable legal provisions.
Section 163 of the BNSS empowers authorities to issue orders in urgent cases involving nuisance or apprehended danger. The provision allows such orders to be directed at individuals, people residing in a particular area or the public generally when visiting a specified place or area.
