Amala Paul Recalls Fears Over Nude Scene In Aadai: ‘I Don’t Think I Would Do It Now

Actor Amala Paul has opened up about the risks she took while working on Aadai, the 2019 Tamil film in which she appeared nude for a pivotal sequence. In an interview with India Today, the actor recalled being concerned about her image before agreeing to the project and said she would not make the same choice again.

Amala said her biggest concern was how writer-director Rathna Kumar would handle the subject and whether the nudity would remain an integral part of the story rather than becoming its main focus.

She revealed that she spent nearly two months understanding the filmmaker’s approach before agreeing to the role.

“I needed to trust the director and the cinematographer. My whole thinking was, are these people up for making an aesthetic film where it is emotionally driven, or is it about nudity?” she said.

Once she was convinced that the sequence would be handled creatively, Amala said the experience became a positive creative process.

“They made me feel comfortable with minimal people on set,” she added.

Recalling her initial apprehensions, Amala said she was worried about how the film could affect her public image and whether it might lead to her being stereotyped.

“I had all these thoughts, and I was scared about my image. I did not want to be stereotyped and do more such films. If you ask me to do an Aadai right now, I don’t think I would do it,” she said.

What Is Aadai About?

Written and directed by Rathna Kumar and produced by V Studios, Aadai stars Amala Paul in the lead role, alongside Ananya Ramaprasad, Vivek Prasanna and Ramya Subramanian.

The film follows Kamini, played by Amala, a young and carefree television journalist whose life changes dramatically after a night of partying.

She wakes up alone and naked inside an abandoned building, with no memory of what happened to her friends or how she ended up there. The story unfolds as a survival thriller as Kamini attempts to escape while trying to piece together the events of the previous night.

Amala Paul’s Recent Work

Amala Paul was last seen on the big screen in 2024 in The Goat Life, starring alongside Prithviraj Sukumaran and Jimmy Jean-Louis. Directed by Blessy, the Malayalam film received critical acclaim and performed well commercially.

She also appeared in the Malayalam psychological drama Level Cross, which featured Asif Ali and Sharaf U Dheen in lead roles. The film was directed by Arfaz Ayub.
