Trump Says He Is In ‘Deciding Mode’ On Iran, Warns ‘Very Big Things’ Are Coming

US President Donald Trump said on Sunday that he was in “deciding mode” on Iran and warned that “very big things” were coming, as tensions between Washington and Tehran remained high.

Speaking to Fox News correspondent Trey Yingst, Trump said Iran “better behave” but indicated that he could meet Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian.

According to Yingst, Trump said the options being considered included “wiping them out”, allowing Iran’s economy to deteriorate or reaching a deal with Tehran.

“My question is, if and when do I blow the entire nation up? They better behave,” Trump was quoted as saying.

Pezeshkian is due to attend the United Nations General Assembly in New York this week. Asked about the possibility of meeting Trump, the Iranian president said he would “probably be open” to such a meeting.

US-Iran Tensions Remain High

The comments come amid a tense US-Iran standoff nearly seven months after Washington and Israel launched attacks on Iran.

Meanwhile, Iran’s top negotiator, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, said on Sunday that Tehran had conveyed its conditions to Washington through mediators for reopening the strategic Strait of Hormuz, AFP reported.

Iran has sought to blockade the key waterway during the wider Middle East conflict, raising concerns over global energy supplies and shipping.

US military officials said on Saturday that oil, gas and cargo shipments moving out of the Gulf through the Strait of Hormuz had reached their highest levels in six months over the past two weeks.
