Thailand Visa-Free Travel For Indians: 30-Day Stay Rule Takes Effect

Thailand has retained visa-free entry for Indian passport holders, but Indian travellers now face a shorter maximum stay under the country’s revised visa-exemption rules.

From September 15, 2026, Thailand has reduced the visa-free stay for eligible nationalities, including Indians, from the earlier 60 days to 30 days. The revised rules apply to tourism and other permitted short-term visits.

Indians Can Travel To Thailand Without A Visa

Indian ordinary passport holders continue to be eligible for Thailand’s visa-exemption scheme. This means travellers visiting Thailand for tourism within the permitted period do not need to obtain a tourist visa before departure.

However, the maximum visa-free stay is now 30 days, making it important for Indian tourists to plan their itineraries accordingly.

Thailand had introduced a broader 60-day visa-exemption arrangement in July 2024, covering India among 93 countries and territories. The Tourism Authority of Thailand’s earlier guidance listed Indian passport holders among those eligible for the scheme.

Documents Travellers Should Carry

Although a visa is not required for an eligible visa-exempt visit, travellers should be prepared to satisfy Thai immigration requirements. A valid passport and proof of onward or return travel may be required at immigration. Thailand’s tourism authority also advises travellers to check the latest requirements with Thai authorities because entry rules can change.

Indian travellers should therefore keep their passport, return or onward ticket, accommodation details and other relevant travel documents readily available.

What This Means For Indian Tourists

The continuation of visa-free entry is significant for Indians planning short holidays to destinations such as Bangkok, Phuket, Pattaya, Krabi and Chiang Mai. The reduction from 60 to 30 days, however, means that longer holidays will require travellers to examine other visa options.

For most short vacations, the revised 30-day visa-free period provides sufficient time, but travellers planning extended stays should verify their eligibility and applicable visa rules before booking flights.
