BCCI Revises India U19 Squad for Australia Series After Rohit Yadav Withdrawn Over Age Discrepancy

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Tuesday announced revised India U19 squads for the upcoming ODI and multi-day series against Australia after Rohit Yadav was withdrawn over discrepancies in his age records.

The Junior Cricket Committee named Saurashtra Cricket Association’s Aryan Savsani as Rohit’s replacement in the India U19 ODI squad, while Haryana Cricket Association’s Tanmay Baloda was added to the multi-day squad.

“Rohit, who was named in India’s U19 squads for the upcoming fixtures against Australia U19 at Rajkot and Ahmedabad, has been withdrawn from the squad due to age discrepancies,” the BCCI said in a statement.

Earlier, Sportstar reported that Rohit, who represents Bengal, had been handed a two-year ban by the Indian board over discrepancies in his age records. The action reportedly came only months after he was selected for the junior national team. The BCCI, however, did not mention the reported ban in its statement.

Rohit had previously travelled to Sri Lanka with the India U19 team before being selected for the Australia series. The leg-spinner impressed during the Youth Test against Sri Lanka U19, claiming six wickets, which helped earn him another call-up.

However, an age-verification exercise reportedly uncovered inconsistencies in his Aadhaar records.

According to Sportstar, Rohit’s date of birth was changed several times in official records. When he registered with the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) in 2014, his date of birth was listed as July 7, 2007. A 2017 Aadhaar update subsequently changed his year of birth to 2006, which remained in another update in 2020.

The year was changed again in 2021, this time to 2009. His address details were also altered multiple times, initially showing Uttar Pradesh, followed by Howrah and later Liluah.
