RTI activist seeks probe into funding of Abhijeet Dipke’s US education

Days after the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) announced a ₹1 crore legal defence fund for protesters arrested or detained during the Delhi demonstrations, a Surat-based RTI activist has sought investigations into the outfit’s finances and the financial background of its founder’s family.

According to PTI, RTI activist Amit Tiwari has written to multiple authorities seeking an inquiry into the assets of Bhagwanrao Dipke, father of CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke, a retired Maharashtra government employee.

Tiwari questioned how Dipke’s children were able to pursue higher education in the United States despite his reported salary as a junior engineer with the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC).

“We have requested the Maharashtra government to investigate whether this is a case of disproportionate assets and take appropriate action if any irregularities are found,” Tiwari said.

Abhijeet Dipke, a Boston University graduate, returned to India on June 6 and later led the CJP protests over the alleged NEET-UG paper leak.

Legal defence fund under scrutiny

The activist has also approached the Election Commission of India (ECI) and Central GST authorities over the ₹1 crore legal aid fund announced by senior advocate and Rajya Sabha MP Kapil Sibal.

Tiwari argued that if the Cockroach Janta Party is functioning as a political organisation, the Election Commission should verify whether it is registered under Section 29A of the Representation of the People Act, 1951.

He said that if the organisation is not registered, the collection and utilisation of donations should be examined by the authorities.

The activist also questioned the tax implications of the legal aid announcement, asking whether applicable GST obligations would arise in connection with the pledged amount.

Criticism of protests

Tiwari further criticised the CJP-led agitation, saying it had moved beyond its original focus on the alleged NEET paper leak.

He alleged that some participants made abusive remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his late mother during the protests, adding that complaints had been submitted to the authorities over those statements.

The allegations and complaints have not yet been independently verified, and there has been no immediate response from the Cockroach Janta Party or Kapil Sibal regarding the RTI activist’s claims.
