Domestic LPG Price Hiked by ₹29 per Cylinder, Second Increase in Three Months
The price of domestic LPG cylinders has been raised by ₹29 per cylinder, marking the second increase in three months as global energy markets continue to face supply pressures linked to tensions in West Asia.
With the latest revision, the price of a 14.2-kg domestic LPG cylinder in Delhi has increased from ₹913 to ₹942. The new rates came into effect on Sunday, June 7.
The hike follows a ₹60 increase in March, when global energy prices surged amid the US-Iran conflict. Despite the latest revision, industry sources said state-run oil marketing companies continue to incur significant losses on subsidised cooking gas sales.
According to sources, oil firms were losing around ₹703 on every domestic LPG cylinder sold before the latest price increase. The revision is expected to partially offset those losses but is unlikely to fully bridge the gap created by elevated import costs and supply constraints.
The increase comes amid a broader rise in fuel prices, with rates of petrol, diesel, aviation turbine fuel (ATF), commercial LPG and auto LPG also moving higher in recent months due to tightening global supplies.
Meanwhile, commercial LPG cylinders used by hotels, restaurants and other businesses have witnessed even steeper increases. On June 1, the price of a 19-kg commercial LPG cylinder was raised by ₹42 to ₹3,113. That followed hikes of ₹1,000 in May, ₹195.5 in April and ₹114.5 in March, reflecting sustained pressure on the energy market.
